Here in Hook, the location of our Virgin Media Head Office, I am one of the Regional Charity Champions along with 4 other colleagues. We're the team that's responsible for managing the relationship with our regional charities and inspiring our colleagues to donate for these good causes.

On the 5th July 2012 we held our national Virgin Media Charity Day – one day where we all unite to raise as much money for the over 60 charities that we have.

On the day, we all came in mega early to blow up 400 balloons and distribute them around the 3 buildings that make up our Hook Campus. I met with our 4 chosen charities who we had invited to join in the fun and to help them set up with their displays. It's a busy morning, trying to ensure that everything is in place for the days events, from getting the stocks and signage ready, along with the footie and hoola hoop 'keepy-uppy' to making sure the tea is freshly brewed for our Chari-tea run.

The first events kicked off at 9am… for us that's a bacon butty trolley run by our senior team in fancy dress! Their selling skills worked a treat and further supplies had to be ordered to feed our hungry colleagues. Other activities then also kicked off with a charity car wash, raffle, Wii Games, Penalty Shoot out and Table Footie leagues too. This year, I'm really proud of the recipe book staff put together. From midday we then kicked off our 'Best of British' theme with a cake competition and Pimm's O'clock – the sun even managed to pay us a visit! The Strawberries and Cream crew met in the Restaurant to collect their trays and trollies and wend their way to sell their 'Best of British' treats.

The afternoon saw our CEO and COO on the 'smoothie bike' for their pedal power challenge. There's no let up for our esteemed leaders as the queue continued with no let up in sight.

The highlight of the day, I expect for many, had to be the stocks with folk purchasing buckets of water rather than sponges to get their revenge on senior members of staff. Crowds gathered and were astonished at how wet everyone was getting. The day finished with Divisional teams competing in a Tug of War. Heats were held before the winning team announced.

As the day drew to a close, the charity champions gathered the day's takings and started to announce raffle winners. We were overwhelmed with the amount we had raised. We had a fun packed day and raised over £8,000. Not bad for a days work! In fact, not bad for the 'best day at work ever'.
