Green at the V Festival 2010
Find out what's going on to make the V Festival a bit greener.
This year, The V Festival sponsored by Virgin Media teamed up with two companies to help reduce the festival’s environmental impact. We think this year’s partnerships represent a step in the right direction for the V Festival and we hope to have more green initiatives at next year's festival.
The Green Tent Company
Every year thousands of tents are left behind at music festival campsites and many of them end up in landfill because they can't be sorted and recycled. In 2010, V Festival sponsored by Virgin Media partnered with The Green Tent Company, who supply recyclable polyester tents to festival goers. The tents can be ordered online and collected at the festival, saving the hassle of lugging tents to the festival in the first place. Once the festival is over, on site tent-recycling drop-off points allow people to recycle their tent and prevent it from going to landfill.
Big Green Coach
An estimated 45% of the total carbon footprint of a music festival is made up of the emissions from audience travel to and from the site. This year, the Big Green Coach was the official travel supplier to the festival, not only helping to reduce the carbon emissions from private car journeys, but also the traffic jams and stressed-out drivers experienced by people travelling to the site by car.
